LIME TREE PLACE

R. E. Day appears in
Directories at the sub Post Office at 99 Lime Tree Place from 1912 to 1916.

The Unicorn public house on the right.
Denis Reynolds sent me the following 3 photo. He had them from Joan Cobbold, daughter of Cecil Mayhew, landlord of The Unicorn, Joan still lives in Stowmarket - I have included Denis's comments on each photo

"Unicorn
Outing Club in 1951 about to depart for Yarmouth. Cecil Mayhew took over as
landlord of the Unicorn after my Grandfather Harry Pizzy retired in 1948 - he
was landlord until 1964. Cecil was previously the baker in the bakehouse
at the rear of the Unicorn and his wife Ruby ran the shop next door and Joan
made deliveries in the van.
A list of the names of some of those pictured is as follows -

"The Unicorn Outing Club 28th June 1952. Joan rescued the photo as it was about to be dumped. It has suffered badly - I have restored some damaged areas but dare not touch the area within the group. Joan's father Cecil Mayhew took over as landlord of the Unicorn after my Grandfather Harry Pizzy retired in 1948. Many of the same people appear who are in the previous photo."

"This photo was taken in May 1945 of a street party in Lime Tree Place outside The Unicorn to celebrate the end of the war."
Seated at the table from
left to right are -
Mr. Anderson, Chairman of the Council, Mrs E. Grenville, Mrs Anderson and

the corner opposite the Unicorn, Mrs Edgar Fulcher, Cecil and Ruby
