THE HOP
POLE
Stowupland Street
Prentice Road
The name of the Hope Pole Tavern is a reminder that Hops were once
cultivated in the area of Stowmarket.
This beerhouse was locally known as the "poor man's hotel"
workmen would stay there during the week, and return home by train
from the near-by station at weekends. It closed in 1925.

The Hop Pole occupied the part of the building to the right of the
arch, the remainder of the building was Lankester & Wells bonded warehouse.
