WILLIAM JOHN BARNARD

William John Barnard was born on 8 January 1857 to William and Elizabeth Barnard (nee Skipping).  Census returns give his occupation as an engine fitter/engine turner//iron turner, which may be the link to his time as an engineer on the Prentice family steam driven yacht. He married, firstly, Henrietta Dykes of Buxhall 2 June 1879, the 1881 census has them living in St Clements, Ipswich, Henrietta died in 1887. WJB married, secondly, Mary Jane Smith of Stowmarket on 31 August 1889. His first son, William, of Mary Jane, was born in Wivenhoe. William John, died 14th January 1942. Mary Jane died 28 September 1944.
